Microsoft’s Surface: Not Profitable Yet

Surface-Black-Covers_Print

After the October debut of the Surface tablet/pc line, Microsoft has reported that they have sold over 1.7 million units totaling for $853 million. These aren’t small numbers by any means.. but they still haven’t covered the marketing budget Microsoft put into the Windows 8 and Surface tablet lines.

With $898 million spent on marketing both Surface and WIndows 8, this news comes with the realization that the Surface tablet is not profitable (yet). Microsoft had to spend more than usual to promote a new brand and get it recognizable so we can expect better numbers and even profit when the next models of Surface tablets debut later this year.
